Corporate Counsel, Digital Advertising
REMOTE, UNITED STATES
G&A – LEGAL
Yelp is looking for a clever counselor to join its small but nimble legal team, supporting a profitable, 5,000 person, publicly-traded company in its efforts to connect people with great local businesses.
This is a full-time position which can be based anywhere in the U.S., though we have large offices across the country at your disposal if you are local to them (e.g., San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Phoenix, Washington D.C.).
Yelp’s legal team currently has lawyers in the Bay Area, Chicago, Austin, and Southern California.
This role is primarily focused on supporting Yelp’s sales and revenue operations, requiring a deep understanding of Yelp’s ad products and sales processes while drafting and negotiating ad agreements for local, mid-market and national clients, crafting incentive compensation programs, and helping to identify and mitigate legal and business risks associated with Yelp’s sales and revenue operations.
This role will also have exposure to technology transactions and procurement, where the need arises, working closely with Yelp’s tech sourcing and business development teams.
As with all legal roles at Yelp, we also expect successful candidates to pitch in and help on areas they may be less familiar with and for which they may not be directly responsible, allowing them to grow and develop and help their colleagues at the same time.
What it takes to succeed:
J.D., top law school with bar admission in good standing
4-6 years’ experience at a big firm and/or in-house with commercial contracts
Digital advertising and media experience is a significant plus
Keen understanding of privacy issues in the advertising context
Experience working cross-functionally with multiple teams of stakeholders
Excellent legal and business judgment; ability to think creatively about unique issues
Rigorous devotion to detail and organization
What you’ll get:
Effective your first day: Full medical, vision, and dental (100% paid employee only coverage)
15 days PTO (accrual begins on date of hire and increases with 2+ years of tenure thereafter), 12 paid holidays, plus one floating holiday
Up to 14 weeks of parental leave
Monthly wellness subsidy
Flexible spending account
401(k) retirement savings plan
Employee stock purchase plan
The ideal candidates, however, are more than the bullet points above. They are contracts geeks who like to “get to yes” while zealously protecting their clients’ interests. They have a good grounding in digital advertising, familiarity with IAB standards, and have deep commercial contracts experience in both big and small stakes settings. They understand the ins and outs of the agreements they negotiate and have a keen sense for balancing revenue and risk. They have a proven track record of working autonomously, owning their own work and outcomes, and are organized, good with language, and good with people. Although Yelp has grown substantially from its early days, the company prides itself on maintaining a startup culture and feel. We are looking for someone with an impressive legal background who shares our commitment to providing innovative legal solutions.
Please use your cover letter to draw a clear connection between your work experience and the job requirements detailed above rather than simply rehashing your resume. Also, we ask that you reserve a paragraph or two of your cover letter to comment on an interesting legal topic that has been in the news.
